Many of the estates in Coorg have Scottish names. Names that roll off the tongue like the rain off the red tiled roofs. Names that remind you of childhood, of days gone by, when things were slow, gentle and perfect.
Dalquarren, Craigmore, Dunkeld, Glenmore . . . sometimes the semi-Indian name like Coover Colly (‘colly’ means a ‘little pond’ here). Or the local but curious names like Nari Kad, meaning Tiger’s Forest. And Karadi Gud which means Bear Cave.
This cottage has been part of excitingly good times for the last 100 years. Hunting was always the favourite past time of the Coorgs. Here the owner’s grandfather gathered with his friends, often joined by British planters, to go hunting.
In the verandah of the cottage, today are mementos of those times. The mounted horns of giant bison, and deer. Years later, the cottage has become a pleasant home for visitors hunting for peace and fun.
The food we serve seems to be loved and brings our guests back here regularly.
Coorg food, especially the signature pork dish, Pandhi Kari is a favourite.
A cook, and an assistant, ensure your every comfort. Besides, the host himself is around to see that you enjoy your holiday. And if by chance you hear a gunshot during your visit, it’s probably not a hunt, but a shot fired to announce the birth of a boy child, or to celebrate the Harvest Festival or the Festival of Arms.

Cloud Valley - a home away from home. That's how we felt when we spent a few days there.
Cozy rooms, ample space, huge verandah to enjoy the rains, cool breeze, or a game of rummy, if you are so inclined. . . Hahaha. That's a super fly fun time!
You just can't have a moment when you are not happy being there. The nature walks, the plush greens around, the fresh air, the hospitality of the owners, the awesome, authentic Kodava food, and the peace outside and within you. It's all worth it. Totally worth it!!
My family had an absolutely amazing time. I'm glad we chose Cloud Valley and we sure will go there again. Gets a firm thumbs up from me.
